Drop-off Days and SwapOff
Concord Public Works and REUSIT sponsor drop-off days in May and October for a wide variety of recyclable and reusable items not collected at the curb. Non-recyclable oversized waste is also collected. Fees are charged for some items.   Payment is by check only.

SWAPOFF
 

Open to Concord Residents Only
Bring things you no longer want or need (clean and in working order please), take away things you can use. Everything you take is free.  As a courtesy to others we ask that you do not plan to stay more than one hour.
No drop-off of SwapOff items after 1:00 p.m.
SwapOff event will be cancelled in the event of rain.
SCRAP METAL AND APPLIANCES

Appliances, ACs, pots and pans, coat hangers, gas grills, propane tanks, lawn mowers (remove fuel), metal pipe, chain link fencing, lawn chairs, nails, and all other items containing at least 75% metal.  FUEL MUST BE REMOVED from lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc.
BATTERIES,
FLUORESCENT BULBS,
MERCURY ITEMS
No charge
Batteries - Rechargeable (Ni-Cad), lithium, button, and other specialty batteries (no alkaline batteries).
Fluorescent bulbs - Any length or shape, regular or compact.
Mercury items - mercury fever thermometers, thermostats, and any other intact mercury-containing devices.
BOOKS


Any condition (this collection has been aproved by the Concord Free Public Library). Books will be collected by Got Books (www.communitybooksolutions.com).
STYROFOAM
$5 per trash bag
Clean styrofoam block from packaging. Residents are asked to deliver clean foam packaging peanuts directly to shipping stores such as MailBoxes Etc. for reuse. No cups, clamshells or trays.
PLASTIC BAGS

No charge
Clean and dry: shopping, produce, sandwich, bread bags, etc. Anything  that is "stretchy" or marked #2 or #4.
ELECTRONICS

Televisions, computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, fax machines, VCR’s, stereo equipment, etc. Please remove personal information from all hard drives.
ADULT BIKES
($ Donation Requested)


Adult mountain bikes, BMX, hybrids, and men's three-speed bikes only.  No children's bikes.  No rust.  Bikes will be donated to Bikes Not Bombs, a non-profit organization that works with inner city yourth and volunteers to recondition and redistribute used bicycles to communities locally and in Central America.
CELL PHONES
 No Charge
Working cell phones only with charger, etc. Cell phones are donated to the Domestic Violence Victims Assistance Program.  They are programmed to only dial 911 and are available from the Concord Police Department.
PRINTER CARTRIDGES

No Charge 
From laser and inkjet printers and fax machines.
MATTRESSES 
BOX SPRINGS

& UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

Old mattresses and upholstered furniture in poor condition.  (sofas, sofa beds, loveseats, armchairs, office chairs, etc.).  Items will be dismantled and materials recycled.
CARPETING

Carpeting and foam padding.  Padding must be separated from carpeting.
OLD TOWELS  
No charge
Old, clean towels for animal shelters.  Other pet supplies are also accepted.
CD's,  VIDEOS, DISKETTES
$.50/lb.
Compact disks and their jewel cases, video tapes, and computer diskettes.
ATHLETIC SHOES
No charge
Any brand, any condition. Used by Nike in the making of running tracks, basketball courts, tennis courts. etc.
REUSABLE BUILDING MATERIALS

No Charge
In good-to-excellent condition:  cabinets, doors and windows (no lead paint), plumbing and light fixtures, flooring (wood, tile, sheet vinyl), lumber, plywood, sheetrock (16 SF and up).  Donated building materials will be distributed to low and moderate-income families for the repair and upkeep of their homes.
RAGS 

No Charge
Old and damaged clothing, sweaters, blankets, socks, sheets, towels, quilts, curtains, fabric and knitting.  No plastic, leather, down, electric blankets, underwire bras, nylon jackets, curtains with metal hooks or plastic lining, or sleeping bags with long zippers.
CRAYONS

No Charge
Old crayons, any condition.  Crayons are melted down and made into new "crazy crayons."  
Non-Recyclable Materials  
OVERSIZED WASTE

Items for disposal that are too big or heavy to fit in a bag or barrel and set out with regular trash. (e.g.broken chairs, miscellaneous items, etc.).
