Project Summary
Project Name: Wastewater Treatment Plant Clarifier and Detritor Rehabilitation
Project Start Date: July 13, 2009 Estimated End Date: September 30, 2009
Contractor: Hemi Enterprises, Attleboro, MA
Background: The Concord Wastewater Treatment Facility is permitted to treat 1.2 million gallons of municipal wastewater per day. The facility includes structures and equipment with an estimated value of over $15,000,000. Capital investments are required to ensure proper operation and performance in accordance with discharge standards detailed in a state and federally issued National Pollution Discharge Permit.
Project Description: The project involves sandblasting and coating of the structures and appurtenances associated with two 40-foot diameter concrete primary clarifiers and one concrete grit detritor at Concord’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). A primary clarifier is used to settle solids out of the influent flow and thicken these solids prior to wasting for disposal. A detritor is large concrete chamber which is designed to induce grit particles to settle out in headworks of the plant. The planned rehabilitation work includes the majority of the clarifier and detritor components, with the exception of the stand pipes, scumwell boxes, and any plumbing that is permanently affixed to the tanks.
This work is anticipated to take approximately 2 ½ months to complete and will require each piece of equipment to be taken out of service while work is being performed.
Project Update: Contractor has sandblasted, primed and applied two coats of epoxy paint to one of two primary clarifiers. Unit expected to be placed on line shortly.
